In 2016, The Hunger Games took the number five spot on the American Library Association most challenged books list. The reason for this stated: “They were banned due to insensitivity, offensive language, violence, anti-family, anti-ethic and occult/satanic.”

In 2014, the novel was also banned for reasons of inserted religious perspective. However, throughout the trilogy, a religious stance is never once mentioned by Katniss or any other character. The dominant belief throughout — the one in which Katniss dares to fight back — is that of loyalty to Panem and the suppression of the districts.

An important factor in the novels…

The Global Village is the result of technical development and international cooperation that began in the Industrial Park of the 20th Century. It became a reality of life in the 21st Century. In his book, Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan gave us this insight:

Today, after more than a century of electric technology, we have extended our central nervous system itself in a global embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned.

McLuhan was a media and communication theorist. He coined the term “global village” in 1964. He foresaw the world’s culture shrinking and expanding at…

Residents of the Global Village have retained all of the Rights they accrued while living in the Industrial Park. These include the Right to Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness.

However, the Global Village assumes no obligation to fund these Rights through taxation or any other method of fund raising. For example, all residents have the Right to pursue an education using any means available to them. However, the GV Administration has no obligation to provide educational facilities or opportunities for residents regardless of age or ability. These are provided by the philanthropic efforts of the residents. The same is…

Digital media and technology continue to evolve in the Global Village. This presents both extraordinary opportunities and complex challenges:

  • Residents use the power of the internet to explore, connect, create, and work in unique ways.
  • Residents must deal with cyber bullying, hate speech, privacy violations, and digital distraction.

As a result, Residents struggle to make sense of this new world. They want to use this technology to learn, create, and participate — to be responsible digital citizens. However, they also want to preserve their autonomy and privacy.

Digital citizenship is the responsible use of technology to learn, create, and participate.

NLT 1 Samuel 18:1–4

After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. 2 From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. 3 And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself. 4 Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.

Why is this ponderable?

If the author of 1 Samuel had lived in the 21st Century, he might have used bromance to explain the…

In their transition to the homeschool screens of the GlobalVillage, teachers changed. In the schoolhouse classroom, teachers were like shop foreman in a manufacturing workshop. The shop produced widgets; the classroom produced knowledge-infused students.

In the workshop, it was easy to manage and motivate workers. Fall behind in your productivity quota and your paycheck shrunk. Make too many mistakes on the assembly line and the foreman repremanded or fired you.

In the classroom, students learned at the pace set by the teacher. Fall behind and your GPA dropped. Goof off and the Principal disciplined or suspended you.

It is not…

In a move aimed at blunting the financial power given select political candidates as a result of the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court in 2010, the recently spawned Voters United organization will sponsor a Vote Auction across the nation ten days before the General Election in November.

In the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case, the US Supreme Court held that the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting political independent expenditures by corporations, associations, or labor unions. The practical effect of this decision was to grant “personhood” to these corporate bodies.

Move to Amend, a coalition…

Finally, Samson shared his secret with her. “My hair has never been cut,” he confessed, “for I was dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as anyone else.”

The story of Sampson and Delilah holds an encoded truth. Delilah learns that Sampson could be constrained and defeated simply by cutting his hair. Many Bible scholars took this as spiritual allegory but recent scientific research has revealed otherwise.

During the Vietnam War, special forces in the war department sent undercover experts to comb…

Genesis 4:2–5

When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground. When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift — the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift.

Depending on how you interpret Old Testament scripture, you may come away from this passage wondering if Cain was the very first Vegan. Why else would he think that God would appreciate his gift of vegetables…

If you are searching for a particular House of Worship in the Global Village, you will not find it. There are no brick and mortar churches, masques, synagogues or temples here. They are not needed. Anyone who wishes to acknowledge a Higher Power can do so within the confines of his or her conscious mind. Therein lives the greatest Mystery of life: what lies just beyond our physical senses.

Every resident of the Global Village is welcome to connect with this Higher Power. There are no special rituals or protocols required. One need only go past the cares and…
