Just reread my copy of JULY 20TH 2019, Life in the 21st Century by Authur C Clark. It was published in 1986! Clark was one of the few sci-fi writers who could put the scinece into sci-fi. He was not only a great writer, but the engineer who envisioned and helped develop satellite telecommunications. The other sci-fi writer who most likely inspired "killer robots" was Isac Asimov. But he tended to worry a lot about how this technology might impact humanity.
